The Medical Assistant/Scribe, (MA/S) serves as a member of the medical team at the Wind River Family & Community Health Care Center. The CMA/S supports the medical providers and ensures that all patients receive quality care while maintaining compliance with all federal grants, HIPAA and Wind River Family and Community Health Care Clinic policy and procedures.
Perform intake procedures by obtaining chief complaint, purpose of visit, vital signs, pulse oximetry, height, weight, routing patients and labeling specimens.
Assists the RN LPN and health care providers by promptly reporting changes in the patients condition.
Initiates emergency measures, cardiopulmonary resuscitation appropriate to skill level, and assists with retrieving emergency medical equipment.
Assists health care providers in examination of patient by explaining procedures, positioning the patient, assembling, arranging and draping instruments and gathering supplies.
Obtains bacteriologic specimens such as sputum and clean catch urine specimens, and instructs patients in proper collection of samples.
Prepares specimens for analysis. Routes requisition forms to laboratory and x-ray as needed.
Files results if various tests in the patients medical record.
Instructs patients on the patients role in various procedures, and assists in various chaperoned examinations.
Documents information/ patient care on to the patients’ electronic health care record. This documentation will occur, at times in the exam room with the patient and health care provider, in a real-time situation.
Performs less complex dressings and treatments without assistance, and with assistance, cleans, irrigates and dresses more complex wounds.
Assists in inhalation therapy; obtains peak expiratory flow rates and sets up small volume nebulizers.
Performs urinary catheterization.
Performs 12 lead EKG and gives report to RN/health care provider.
Performs venipuncture for blood draws, within the MA/S scope of practice.
Performs blood glucose testing and records results using a glucometer.
Reports to RN and/or health care provider and documents findings in medical record.
Administers oral medications, performs subcutaneous and intramuscular injections.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Demonstrates effective, communication methods and skills, following appropriate lines of authority (chain of command).
Communicates with patients, families and team members to ensure the occurrence of effective therapeutic interventions, and to ensure safe patient care.
Other duties as assigned.
Must be able to demonstrate skills in the practical application of electronic systems and database management software, and satisfactory sterile technique.
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or GED equivalent, along with any supporting certifications such as BLS and other necessary competencies (e.g., ACLS, TNCC, PALS, etc.).
It is required to be a Certified Medical Assistant
The incumbent must maintain strict confidentiality and high ethical standards in performing the position. The incumbent needs to be respectful, possess cultural awareness and sensitivity, be flexible, and demonstrate sound work ethics.
