Wind River Family & Community Health Care is seeking applicants for the position of Registered Nurse. Wind River Family & Community Health Care provides ambulatory health care for the service population of the Wind River Reservation. The Registered Nurse serves as a member of the nursing team in the outpatient clinic/treatment room, at the Wind River Family & Community Health Care Center

Major Duties:

Assignments involve a wide variety of patient situations ranging from those who may require routine examinations to those who are critically ill and may require immediate medical attention. The employee is responsible for the patient from admittance to the clinic/treatment room to discharge, whether discharged to home or referral to other facilities/units that are capable of providing the level of care required. The employee has medical knowledge and skills for completing relative patient care assignments. Works closely with other members of the nursing team for further development of nursing skills and professional judgment.
Provides the full range of registered nursing services at the Wind River Family & Community Health Care Center.
Completes initial assessment of patients in the outpatient clinic using the integrated health care model with documentation in the Electronic Health Record, obtaining an accurate history and recording as appropriate. Determines seriousness of complaint and adjust the flow of patients to meet urgent care needs through established screening process. Provides urgent care treatment.
Records observations, nursing interventions, therapeutic measures administered, and other data relevant to the patient's care in the medical chart/electronic health record. Acts as the liaison between the provider and the patient.
Serves as assigned on any established committee/ team primarily for nursing input and improved patient care. Will actively participate in nursing staff meetings, clinic flow, projects assigned, and activities.
Manages the stable phase of common chronic illnesses such as Diabetes, Hypertension, and Tuberculosis.
Safely operates specialized equipment. Follows procedures for reporting equipment management problems, failures or user errors. Maintains and demonstrates knowledge of and adheres to clinic and departmental safety regulations. Performs responsibilities for infection control, hazardous materials, safety, security, and emergency preparedness.
Demonstrates effective communication methods and skills, following appropriate lines of authority (chain of command). Communicates with patients, families and team members to ensure the occurrence of effective therapeutic interventions, and to ensure safe patient care
Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge Required:

Knowledge of and ability to apply professional nursing principles, practices, procedures, and techniques to outpatients with a wide variety of conditions from pediatrics to geriatrics.
Knowledge of medical history taking techniques, physical assessment, and normal body function; disease processes, signs, symptoms, and treatment of acute minor illnesses; pathophysiology of inflammation, infection, allergic reactions, and such diseases as respiratory, gastrointestinal, dermatological, urological, and musculoskeletal conditions, normal and abnormal vital signs, and normal and abnormal neurological signs and symptoms; signs and symptoms indicative of emergent or life threatening nature.
Knowledge and ability necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of patients served. Incumbent demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the lifespan. Ability to identify and categorize each patient's age-specific grouping of needs, i.e., infant, adolescent, or geriatric patients.
Knowledge of normal ranges of laboratory values and beginning skills in assessment of abnormal radiological findings.
Knowledge of pharmaceuticals, their desired effects, side effects, and complications of their use, and steps to counteract adverse effects in order to properly administer and monitor patients using medications.
Ability to recognize adverse signs and symptoms and to react swiftly in emergency situations.
Knowledge and skill sufficient to provide CPR. Knowledge and skill to apply ACLS and PALS.
Skill in operating specialized medical equipment such as cardiac monitor, resuscitation devices, etc.
Knowledge of the psychosocial effects on patients within the outpatient setting who have multifaceted problems; of communication techniques to establish rapport and facilitate cooperation and patient compliance in patient education.
Knowledge of communication techniques and ability to teach and instruct patients, family, and/ or significant others in proper health care of patients.
Skill to develop or participate in a nursing plan to meet the needs of assigned patients.
Proficient computer and typing skills.

Education and Experience:

Associates in Nursing as well as maintain an active Registered Nurse License in the state of Wyoming, along with any supporting certifications such as BLS and other necessary competencies (e.g., ACLS, TNCC, PALS, etc.).
